PITSBURG – The Ansonia Lady Tigers earned a 61-21 WOAC road win over the Franklin Monroe Lady Jets in Thursday night varsity basketball action.
The Lady Tigers took a 10-2 first-quarter lead, with Ansonia freshman Charlotte Barga leading the way with four first-period points.

Like the opening quarter, second-quarter points remained at a minimum, with seven of Ansonia’s 11 points coming at the free-throw line while two of FM’s five points came at the charity stripe, sending the teams to the break with the Lady Tigers leading 21-7.
“We started out slow,” said Ansonia coach Connor Custenborder. “Definitely something we are going to have to turn around. The past couple of games, we’ve started out slow. It’s something we have to figure out as a team to come out ready to go.”

The teams picked up the pace in period No. 3, with eight Lady Tigers denting the scoreboard, taking the quarter 19-9, good for a 40-16 score with one quarter to play.
Rose Barge paced Ansonia with nine fourth-quarter points, including a 3-pointer, to lead the Lady Tigers to a 40-point conference win.

“London Reichert played well, Rose Barga played well,” Custenborder noted. “We had 12 of our 14 girls score. We want to get all 14 but very happy to get 12 of the 14 to put points up on the board. We had balanced scoring all the way around.”

Ansonia sophomore London Reichert led Ansonia and all players with a game-high 13 points, and Rose Barga chipped in 12 Lady Tigers’ points.
