ANSONIA – The Ansonia Tigers defeated Arcanum 6-2 in WOAC baseball action on the Tigers’ home field behind a complete Keegen Weise game pitching performance.

“We missed Keegen a lot last year with an injury so having him back this year full strength is very beneficial to us,” said Ansonia coach, Dustin Hecht. “What Hemmerich had done with us last year, having those two as a one-two punch is going to be great for us if we can keep everybody healthy.”

“Lucas Miller pitcher very well, their pitcher threw really well,” Arcanum coach, Randy Baker said. “He had us off balance, we struck out 11 times. He’s a really good pitcher. He shut us down two years ago – really good lefthander, has a good curve ball, handles himself on the mound extremely well.”

Ansonia dented the board in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead that would hold up until the top of the fifth with Arcanum plating a run to knot the score at 1-1.

“We were putting the bat on the ball early, just right to them, keep swinging and things start happening,” Hecht said.

The Tigers put the game away in the bottom of the sixth with a 5-run inning to lead 6-1 after six complete.

“Miller got up to his pitch count and we were done with him,” Baker stated. “Early in the season, I’m not going to run pitchers out there and throw them a lot of innings. Bring some young guys in and see what we have.”

“We just had too many strikeouts to put the ball in play,” Coach Baker added. “We’re a young team. We’ll learn from it, we’ll get it fixed.”

Arcanum tacked on a run in the top of the seventh for a final 6-2 Ansonia conference win.
