ANSONIA – Ansonia American Legion Post 353 donates money each year to local causes throughout the year. December is when the organization celebrates the donations with the community and those who receive them, hosting recipients to pizza and soft drinks before distributing the charitable contributions to many local service organizations, clubs, and schools.

“We couldn’t do this without community support,” said Ansonia American Legion Post 353 Commander, Jennifer Anthony. “This community supports Veterans.”

The local Legion supports all facets of the community from Police, Fire and Rescue to Girl and Boy Scout Troops and from the football team to the band.

Community support is bringing your family to one of Post 140’s meals with the proceeds from the meal helping to pay for a child’s cost of sports uniform or a cushion to sit on in the school library. Donuts are treated to students for good grades and tablets given to excellent scholars are donated by the local Legion Post.

Much of the Ansonia Schools weight room equipment has been paid for by donations from the Ansonia American Legion and Post 353 has expanded its generous giving to include many programs at Mississinawa Valley Schools as well. Post 353 members live not only in Ansonia but Darke County as well.

“We provide free meals each Tuesday to our members and a free meal at Thanksgiving and Christmas,” Anthony stated. The American Legion is a great place for Veterans to join. We are here to help or just listen. You can be as active or not active as you choose to when you become a member.”

“We also have Sons of the American Legion, which is a very active and fun group of guys. They take care of the Annual July 4th barbeque chicken dinner. The Ladies Auxiliary is a huge asset to our organization and they plan and help prepare meals for Veterans funerals as well as attend our Memorial and Veteran’s Day ceremonies. Both of these parts of our Legion Family also donate much time and money to various causes.

Ansonia American Legion is a family-friendly place and if you are a Veteran or the family of a Veteran, why not join us,” Anthony concluded.
