Annie Mae Brunson February 6, 1942, to August 4, 2023

On Friday, August 4th, 2023, at 8:20 am, Annie Brunson passed away peacefully in Sterling, Virginia, at the home of her youngest daughter Mary Alyson Brunson Jones. Her son, Norman Brunson, was at her bedside when she took her last breath and left this world to go be present with Christ in Heaven for eternity.

Annie Brunson was born on February 6, 1942, to Naomi L. Jones and R.J. Jones in La Fayette, Alabama.  She relocated to Greenville, Ohio, at a very young age and lived on a small farm on the outskirts of town.  After graduating from Greenville High School she attended college at the University of Dayton and studied nursing. Throughout her lifetime, she worked many jobs but enjoyed working as a legal secretary in Dayton and at the Veterans Administration in Dayton, providing care to our nation’s veterans returning from war the most.  Here is where she met her loving husband, Alfred Brunson, who also worked at the VA as a social worker.

Ann is survived only by her five children: Dwayne Keith Jones, Naomi Kimberly Fair, Mary Alyson Brunson Jones, Norman Brunson, and Joseph Brunson.  Annie enjoyed spending much of her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren:  Corey Johnson, Marcus Johnson, Elizabeth Brunson, Jake and Joshua Jones, Aubri, Malachi, and Emma Jones.  And during her final days, she was blessed to be able to spend quality time with two of her great-grandchildren, Braelyn and Peyton Johnson.

The simplest pleasures in life brought her great joy, spending time with her mother, shopping at Rikes in the Dayton Mall, antiquing, taking the family on long car rides, going to church on Sundays and eating at the MCL Cafeteria in Dayton.  She also enjoyed crocheting, watching cooking shows and soap operas, and dancing at the officers club in her younger years.

Annie Brunson’s celebration of life will be held at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home on Thursday, August 17th at 1:00 PM, with Burial following in Greenville Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.zecharbailey.com for the Brunson family.
