PREBLE COUNTY – On Sunday, at approximately 5:28 a.m., the Preble County Sheriff’s Office, West Alexandria Fire & EMS and Eaton Fire Department were dispatched to the area of US Route 35 and Quinn Road in Twin Township for a report of a crash involving a single vehicle.
The preliminary investigation found that a 2017 Cadillac XT5, operated by Shelby Haynes, age 20 of West Alexandria, was traveling eastbound on US Route 35 approaching Quinn Road when her vehicle veered off the road and struck a culvert, which sent the vehicle into a rollover and came to rest in a parking lot where it caught fire. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Haynes was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, where an autopsy was performed. Investigators believe that alcohol may be a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Preble County Sheriff’s Office and the Preble County Coroner’s Office.
