DARKE COUNTY – The Fort GreeneVille Chapter DAR hosted an Ohio History Connections Open Doors event on September 13. The community was invited to visit the historic Studabaker Schoolhouse, learn more about its rich history, and help celebrate the importance of preserving this special piece of Darke County heritage for future generations. There were 75+ visitors in attendance, including several descendants of the Studabaker family. The children who visited were given hands-on demonstrations as students. Rumpke Waste & Recycling was an event sponsor.
The historic Studabaker Schoolhouse, located on the former Abraham Studabaker pioneer homestead, has a long and fascinating history that reflects the early days of education in Darke County. Today, the schoolhouse stands as an important local landmark, preserved by the Fort GreeneVille Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and refurbished to recreate an 1800s classroom.
The historic Studabaker Schoolhouse is available for group visits, offering an opportunity to step inside and experience a recreated 1800s classroom. To schedule a group visit, please contact a Fort GreeneVille Chapter DAR member.
