For those who knew my husband, Christoph Keller, his passing in January 2026 left a tremendous void. For those who did not have the opportunity to know him, I hope they will understand that his greatest legacy was not necessarily the things he accomplished, but the way he cared for people.
Christoph was a Darke County Fair Board member, but his connection to The Great Darke County Fair began long before that. Through his family’s business, Keller Grain and Feed, he spent decades at the fair helping exhibitors, providing supplies and eventually creating a rest tent where people could sit, charge their phones, visit and, most importantly, find Christoph for a good conversation or a helping hand.
That was just who he was.
Someone once said that we should have T-shirts that say “Be More Like Christoph.” I think there is a lot of truth in that.
Be more like Christoph.
Be patient like Christoph. Be kind like Christoph. Help like Christoph. Smile like Christoph. Want the best for everyone like Christoph. And, perhaps most importantly, do what needs to be done without needing the attention or the accolades.
Christoph never needed credit. If he could help someone, he did. If something needed to be taken care of, he took care of it. He simply wanted people to be okay.
For years, long before he ever served on the Fair Board, people at The Great Darke County Fair knew they could count on Christoph. Whether it was someone who was camping and needed something, someone bringing an animal to the fair, or someone who simply needed help moving something, Christoph was there. Helping people was never a burden to him; it was simply part of who he was.
Since his passing, I have heard so many people tell me about the ways Christoph had helped them over the years. It has made me realize just how many things he quietly took care of that I never even knew about. He didn’t do those things for recognition. He did them because someone needed help.
Our family feels that absence every day. There are so many things we still want to pick up the phone and ask him about. He was someone we relied on in countless ways, and learning how to live without him has been incredibly difficult.
But we are also incredibly blessed.
I am blessed that I got to be Christoph’s wife and best friend. Our children were blessed to have him as their father, and our granddaughter was blessed to know her Papa. We will make sure she and future generations know the man he was and the lives he touched.
His heart was especially connected to The Great Darke County Fair, 4-H, agriculture, farming and, above all, people. His legacy lives on in the relationships he built, the people he helped and the countless things he quietly did simply because they needed to be done.
This has been a difficult year for our family and for the many friends who loved Christoph. We are so grateful for the prayers, kindness and support we have received.
More than anything, I hope Christoph’s life reminds us that we don’t have to do something extraordinary to make a difference. Sometimes it is simply being the person others know they can count on.
Our family was incredibly blessed to have Christoph. And while we miss him more than words can say, we are grateful for the life he gave us, the people he loved and the example he left behind.
Be More Like Christoph.
