DARKE COUNTY – On July 20th the Darke County Holstein 4-H club held their July meeting. We called the meeting to order and did a roll call.
The Treasurer, health, safety, and Jr. Fair board reports were given. We then had all the members that went to 4-H camp tell us their favorite part about camp.
We then recognized Kensey Homan for representing our club in the Queen and King contest and getting third runner-up, and Shawna Schmitmeyer for getting Fair Queen! July 16th was the Project Presentation of Awards for non-livestock projects. Congratulations to Landon Meyers for getting a County Rosette on his project, My Favorite Things. Rabbit and Beef skillathon is on July 21st from 6 to 8. If you missed any skillathon, you will have to write an essay that is due August 1st, or you can do the online skillathon, which is due July 25th. Make sure your steers and feeder calves have their 840 tags in their ears before coming to the fair. If you lose a tag, contact Betsy in the Jr Fair office.
Feeder calves need to weigh over 250 lbs to be able to show. Jr Fair and Open class entries are due on July 20th. There will be a late fee of $100 after July 20th.
Fair ID passes need to be done by July 20th. Jr. Fairboard members and Dairy committee members need to know about any animal scratches by August 1st. If you are 17 as of January 1st you can apply for the Leadership award. The deadline to apply is the first Friday of the fair. You can give your application to Karen Stanley. Make sure to send out your Sale letters. The sale is on Thursday August 27th.
There are openings on the Jr Fair board. Karen and Trudy need fair tickets turned in by July 26th. If you haven’t gotten any by the end of July they go up to $30 August 1st. We need workers for the cattlemen’s tent. Please sign up if you can. By working there, we earn a lot that will go to the Dairy Committee. This year we bought or will be giving out 7 shirts, a pizza party, exhibitor awards, a tv, and we donated money for the Sunday Church service.
We will be having an auction on Tuesday after the Steer show at 5:30 to auction off the Dairy baskets. We need help setting up the showering and washing it down on August 1st. The next meeting will be on August 17th at 1 pm at the fairgrounds.
We will be putting sawdust down and we will be putting the booth together. We need Skidloaders to help put the sawdust down. We then cut out letters and decorations for our booth. Our booth theme is Red, White and Moo.
We then dismissed the meeting.
