Barbara Rethlake Dance Studio competes in National Dance Competition

SANDUSKY, Ohio – On July 2-5, 2026, the Barbara Rethlake Dance Studio Competitive Dance Team traveled to Sandusky, Ohio to compete in the “Energy” National Dance Competition. The studio performed 5 group numbers, 6 solos, a duo, and a trio. All 5 group numbers received a “Platinum” level award (the highest rating) and 4 of the dances placed in the top 10 overall. The group number “Anchor” received a “Standout” award (choreographed by Emily Courtney) and the group number “Tusk” received a Judges’ Choice Award for Choreography (Choreographed by Lauren Conway).

The trio consisting of Nevan, Nola, and Nalayna Miley received a “Platinum” and placed 1st overall in the 12 and over duo and trio category. The trio is choreographed by Barb Rethlake. The duo of Cheyenne Swisher and Lexi Timmerman received a “High Gold” and 8th overall (choreographed by Emily Courtney and Christyana Emerick).

The solos performed by Cheyenne Swisher, Lexi Timmerman, Eva Kramer, Tara Seger, and Nalayna Miley received “High Gold.” Nalayna Miley received a “Standout” award for her solo and Nevan Miley received a “Platinum” award for her solo.

The group number “Tusk” was asked to perform in the Showcase on the last day of the competition, where they had a 5-judge panel to determine the National Champions. “Tusk” received the Grand National Championship for groups ages 12 and over! The dancers consisted of Tara Seger, Lexi Timmerman, Nevan Miley, Nola Miley, Nalayna Miley, Cheyenne Swisher, Leah Schmitmeyer, and Eva Kramer. Rylie Alexander is also on the team but was unable to compete due to an injury.

The Barbara Rethlake Dance Studio is a fun and family-oriented environment where children 3 years of age through adults can learn to dance. Barbara Rethlake Dance Studio is located in Greenville, OH, on South Broadway, and has been serving the city of Greenville and the surrounding area since 1978. The Studio is open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced students.
