I hope this Newsletter finds you well. Darke County has experienced some rains in the past week, but the warm weather has also given many fields a boost in growth (https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?OH). Wheat is in the process of turning as well and harvest is just around the corner. Many of the same common weeds have remained in the fields, with waterhemp making a number of appearances as well.
If you’re interested in the next Darke County Garden Roundtable, our next session will be held at the OSU Extension Office on Thursday, June 18th at 6:00 p.m. We’ll be focusing on Summer Insect Pest Management and our Plant of the Month is Potatoes.
While the rain has slowed, you may still be interested in the idea of using Rain Barrels. If you’re interested in learning more on that topic, I hope to see you at Worch Library on June 25th at 4:00 p.m.
If you have any pesticides that need to be disposed of, there will be a great opportunity to do so in Miami County in August. The Ohio Department of Agriculture will be holding Pesticide Disposal Collection at the Miami County Fairgrounds on August 24th. For more information, see the attached article: https://agcrops.osu.edu/newsletter/corn-newsletter/2026-17/free-farm-pesticide-disposal-collection-events-available-athens
The next Darke County Ag Breakfast will be Friday, June 19th at 7:30 a.m. at Jack’s Cabin in Greenville.
This week’s Newsletter topics include:
