ARCANUM – Arcanum senior Faith Wooten will continue both her academic and athletic journey after signing her letter of intent to compete in track and field for the Indiana University East Red Wolves.

For Wooten, the decision came down to more than athletics. The welcoming atmosphere at IU East and the opportunity to stay close to home made the school feel like the right fit.

“I wanted to stay close to home, and I enjoyed the small atmosphere. It reminded me of Arcanum in a way. It was not as far as some of the other colleges I was looking at,” Wooten said. “I enjoy track in general. I feel like that’s where God is leading me to.”

Wooten has built an impressive career during her time at Arcanum. She has competed in four years of outdoor track and field while also participating in indoor track during her junior and senior seasons. Her success has carried her to the state meet in each of the last three years, earning podium finishes during both her sophomore and junior seasons. She hopes to add another strong finish during her final high school campaign this spring.

Arcanum coach Jeff Radmacher said Wooten’s work ethic and character are what separate her from others.

“She’s a great person with a great Christian background. Helps everybody out. Great kid. She does what she needs to do,” Radmacher said. “She takes instructions well. She picks up things and she keeps working on her craft. She doesn’t stop when she gets her goal. She just continues to move forward.”

At IU East, Wooten plans to major in Human Life Science while minoring in Exercise Science. She also hopes to continue improving on the track and reaching new personal milestones.

“My expectations are to PR hopefully,” Wooten said. “I haven’t PR’d a lot so far this season. I hope to improve a lot more.”

Wooten leaves Arcanum as one of the program’s most accomplished athletes and now prepares to take the next step in both her education and athletic career with the Red Wolves.
