Well, now that you have read the headline, I am sure those in my family, and my friends, have called Spirit rescue to come and take me to a padded hospital. I understand. That headline does make one seem unsound of mind, but I’ve kinda been that way my whole life, so just hear me out…….then call the crazy wagon!
At the start of this football season, the Bengals had real hope, and the Cowboys were very suspect for giving up Micah Parsons. People called Jerry Jones crazy, and they thought that Joe Burrow would lead the Bengals to the playoffs at least. Then, reality set in; The Cowboys looked incompetent, and the Bengals’ defense couldn’t stop a nose bleed! Then, the worst of the worst happened….Joe got hurt, a bad turf toe injury (some doctors said the worst one they had seen!), and the defense was awful! The Cowboys?… well, they looked… uh… incompetent! But keep in mind, folks, the NFL is a long season, and injury, luck, and figuring out who your team is takes time.
Suddenly, and without warning, Joe healed quicker than expected, the Defense started acting like one, and Dak Prescott looked like a real NFL quarterback, and miraculously, Micah Parsons wasn’t really missed at all. What the heck happened?? I do not know, but this is why I love the NFL! You just never know. Now that the Eagles and the 49ers look vulnerable, and a real young Rams team is really coming on, the NFC is now looking interesting.
Who would have thought that the Jacksonville Jaguars would be competitive, and Miami would stink up the joint….. and Baltimore and Pittsburgh are floundering around like a fish out of water? Now, after watching the Bengals destroy the Ravens last night, and seeing the Cowboys rip the heart out of the Eagles, and the Rams looking really good… anything can happen. Look, the Chiefs are struggling, and the Bills are the Bills… close but no cigar, although this might be the year since the Chiefs are struggling.
As crazy as the NFL is this year, you have to love the competition. The NFL is the most competitive league in sports. Why? Really, there are only 2 things that matter in the NFL that affect teams each week: INJURIES AND TURNOVERS! One you can control, the other you can’t
So, after watching this craziness this week so far, I have come to the conclusion that the Bengals may have found something, the Ravens have lost something, the Steelers’ luck has run out, the Chiefs aren’t Chiefing, and the Bills are the Bills, why not the Bengals?? ONE BIG THING: Joe needs to stay healthy… and can he? Let’s be honest: since College, he has been injury-prone… don’t get mad at me… look it up. If Joe stays healthy and the defense can defend, the Bengals at this point are as good as anybody… and I am NOT a Bengals fan! (Really, though, I am not a Mike Brown fan, that’s why!)
On the NFC side, lately the Eagles have looked ordinary mainly because Saquon Barkley has not produced like last year, and honestly, I don’t think Jalen Hurts is that great a quarterback. The rest of the NFC is just ok; nobody really blows you away. The NFC North is looking decent, but they are beating each other up… except for my Vikings, who really need J.J. McCarthy to act like an NFL quarterback. So, looking at the NFC, who is playing better than the Cowboys right now? Nobody.
Now, if the Bengals can keep Joe Healthy, and the Chiefs don’t get better, and the Bills stay like the Bills, the road is open for the Bengals! In the NFC, the Eagles are floundering at this point, and the Cowboys are rising with no real challengers in the conference except the Rams, so the road is open, to an extent, for them.
IT IS POSSIBLE we could see a Cowboys/Bengals Super Bowl! There is still a way to go, but even believing that is a possibility was unheard of just two weeks ago. So, keep your fingers crossed, Bengal fans, and hope Mike Brown stays away from ANY decision they make, and they just might make the Super Bowl again. As for Cowboy fans, like him or not, Jerry Jones did make ONE RIGHT CALL in trading Micah Parsons… yes, just one! Hopefully, he too takes a vacation if anything important needs to be made!
There you have it….a bold, crazy prediction indeed! As of now, it is POSSIBLE… probable… not likely, but POSSIBLE! I would love to see the Bengals make it, and the Cowboys too….Dak vs. Joe. That would be a great matchup. A lot can happen, so let’s wait and see, but the suspense will be fun!
Now, you may call Spirit… just take me someplace nice and padded where I can watch football!
That’s the way I see it (in my head)….from the sidelines!
