PITTSBURG – The Franklin Monroe Lady Jets basketball program held its Youth Girls Basketball Summer Camp under the direction of first-year head coach Carrie Wood.
“This camp was better than I expected,” said Coach Wood. “I wasn’t sure in a small community how many kids we would get to come out, but the community really bought in, and we had 46 total campers.”
Coach Wood takes over the head coaching position following two years of coaching at the Lady Jets junior high level.
“Our incoming freshmen this year, I’ve had them since seventh grade at Franklin Monroe,” Wood said, “so moving up with them.”
The Lady Jets youth camp focused on fundamentals during the three-day camp, with each camper receiving a Lady Jets camp t-shirt.
“We worked on dribbling, passing, shooting, and correct form on our shooting,” said Coach Wood. “Footwork was big for us, and then learning how to dribble using our fingertips and keeping our head up with the ball under control.”
Ten Lady Jets high school players assisted the Franklin Monroe coaching staff in making a successful camp.
“Our high schoolers did a wonderful job,” Wood noted. “It was good for them to get out and be the coaches, work on leadership, and show them what teamwork is all about.”
“I want to thank my coaching staff for helping,” Coach Wood concluded. “This was a busy week, and they were here every step of the way, and then my high schoolers did a very good job being here, and being all hands on deck.”
