GREENVILLE – The Greenville Lady Wave softball program not only brought home the Gold in winning its 16th District Championship in the past 18 years under the direction of Coach Jerrod Newland while the Miami Valley League (MVL) was recognizing seven Lady Wave players as well in naming them First Team All-League.
“Some neat teams and players, and being recognized by our peers is awesome,” said Coach Newland.
Greenville junior starting pitcher Zoey Burns, a 2023 First Team All-Ohio player was named MVL Athlete of the Year.
“No doubter for Zoey Burns,” Newland said. “Well deserved, and a picture of her at Butler sums it up with a grin and team win.”
Greenville’s Jerrod Newland was named Miami Valley League Coach of the Year.
“Excited to win the MVL and super excited for the kids and the league honors,” Newland said. “The MVL season we outscored them 193-39 and could have scored a lot more.”
Coach Newland does not run the score up on teams and uses the “leaving the base too soon” to keep all games respectable.
“You can’t vote for your own kids,” Newland said of the All-League voting process. “I always worry about what will happen, but the kids deserve everything they get. The MVL has some solid DI program kids.”
