COLUMBUS – For 20 years, WTGR Radio, led by Station Manager Scott Ward, has been a cornerstone of Darke County’s agricultural community. WTGR serves as a unique SAE for local FFA members. Each year, 2 to 3 students from different FFA Chapters in Darke County work as co-farm news directors, gaining hands-on experience in broadcasting farm news, weather updates, grain market trends, and commercials for local businesses.
This opportunity not only builds students’ leadership and communication skills but has also led to significant success. Over 16 Darke County FFA members have won Ohio’s Ag Communications Proficiency Award, with many achieving national recognition as winners and Top 4 finalists. WTGR’s impact goes beyond education; it’s a key community partner. During National FFA Week, the station offers free airtime for each FFA chapter to share its message. It also provides coverage of FFA events and promotes the Darke County Fair, supporting both 4-H and FFA members.
Through its dedication to local agriculture and student development, WTGR Radio, under the leadership of station manager Scott Ward, continues to be a vital asset to Darke County, fostering the next generation of agricultural leaders. At the 2025 State FFA Convention in May, WTGR Radio Station was awarded the Honorary State FFA Degree from the Ohio FFA Association. The State FFA Honorary Degree honors the outstanding accomplishments of contributions that individuals or companies make.
The Versailles FFA Chapter nominated WTGR for this honor and all the Darke County FFA Chapters are beyond proud achievements of the WTGR Radio Station!
