WEST LIBERTY – The Arcanum Trojans dropped a 41-26 first-round OHSAA playoff game to the West Liberty-Salem Tigers.
The Tigers jumped out to a 14-0 lead after one quarter of play and took the second quarter 7-6, sending the teams to the break with WL-S holding a 21-6 advantage.
Arcanum put 12 third-quarter points on the board while West Liberty-Salem added 14, giving the Champaign County school a 35-18 lead with one quarter to play.
The Trojans took the final period by an 8-6 score but came up short 41-26, bringing Arcanum’s football season to a close.
Arcanum sophomore quarterback Bishop Cartwright was 12 for 28 through the air for 166 yards with sophomore Lucas Miller good for eight receptions totaling 146 yards. Sophomore MJ Macy led the Trojans ground game with 113 yards on 25 carries.
Luke Midlam paced Arcanum with seven tackles, and Robert Denniston and Truman Knaus accounted for six tackles.
Arcanum closes the season with a 6-5 record and returns most of the team with just four seniors on the 2024 roster.
Playing their final career football game for the Trojans included No. 2 Landon Wagner, No. 3 Luke Midlam, No. 18 Cohen Protzman, and No. 41 Truman Knaus.
