Greenville — The Light Foundation hosted its annual Winter Wonderland at Chenoweth Trails this past weekend, welcoming families and supporters for a festive walk through the woods filled with twinkling lights, decorated trees, cozy fires, and seasonal activities. Despite the cold weather, guests bundled up and enjoyed the unique holiday experience that has become a local favorite since its start in 2020.
“Even with the chilly temperatures, families told us how cozy the trail felt this year,” said Troy Eden, COO of the Light Foundation. “The fires, the lights, and the decorated trees created such a warm atmosphere along the wooded paths. Winter Wonderland has truly grown into a tradition people look forward to.”
Originally created during the pandemic as a safe way for families to celebrate the season outdoors, Winter Wonderland at Chenoweth Trails has continued to evolve while staying rooted in community connection and holiday spirit.
Eden added, “It’s also a great opportunity to explore Chenoweth Trails, where many of our youth programs take place. It’s inspiring to see so many people experience the space in a new way. We’re proud to share this beautiful facility with our community while supporting our mission.”
The annual Adopt-a-Tree contest once again showcased outstanding creativity from local families, schools, and businesses. This year’s winner was MM Defense, whose “Nightmare Before Christmas” themed tree won over most of the visitors. MM Defense has participated in the contest for six consecutive years, making their win especially meaningful. They received a trophy that was handmade by Glenn Rehmert, one of the Light Foundation’s grounds keepers.
“The Adopt-a-Tree contest is always a highlight,” said Brandi Turner, Program Director of the Light Foundation. “People put so much thought into their decorations, and it’s become a fun tradition that visitors really enjoy.”
Winter Wonderland also features a community bake sale each year. A standout contribution came from Silas at Hotel Versailles, who generously baked and donated 1,000 cookies for the fundraiser. Their efforts, along with donations from other community members, added a warm and memorable touch to the event while supporting the Foundation’s youth programs.
“Silas truly made an impact,” Turner said. “Their contribution lifted a huge burden off our team and helped increase our fundraising efforts.”
The Light Foundation credits much of the event’s success to its dedicated volunteers, who kept fires going, assisted families along the trail, and helped maintain a festive and welcoming atmosphere.
“Our volunteers are the heart of Winter Wonderland,” said Eden. “Their enthusiasm and hard work bring the event to life year after year.”
As Winter Wonderland concludes, the Light Foundation is already preparing for a busy year ahead with upcoming youth leadership initiatives, including the Youth Wild Turkey Hunt, Camp Vohokase, the Matt Light All-Conference Football Camp, and Timber Frame Leadership Camp, as well as the release of the 2026 Darke County Scholarship applications. Registration for the Gauntlet Mud Run has also officially opened.
“We’re grateful for everyone who came out, bundled up, and shared the experience with us,” Turner added. “Events like this help us continue our mission of empowering young people, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.”
