Wilcox retires from Spirit EMS

GREENVILLE – After nine dedicated years, Darleen Wilcox has decided to retire from her service at Spirit EMS in Greenville, Ohio. Darleen was an Executive Administrative Assistant and was often the first face you’d see when you walked into the building.

Previous to Spirit, she worked at the John Deer store since she was nearly 18 years old and dedicated her career to serving John Deer customers. After a career at Koening, she decided to apply with Spirit when hearing they were looking for office help.

At Spirit, she helped assist in tasks such as payments, taking messages, and anything else she was asked. Many coworkers described her as a hard worker with a great work ethic who did anything that was asked of her.

“She has been indirectly a part of my life for 65 years. Always had a smile and was always willing to help. She’s a fun person to be around,” shared John Hathaway, EMT.

Wilcox was known around the station as ‘grandma’ and was often taking care of those around her. Unfortunately, earlier this year health issues became prominent in her life and she decided that it was time to retire.

“I loved my job and I loved the people,” said Wilcox. “It’s really hard to not get up and go there.”

Wilcox shared that she will be spending the majority of her time with her grandkids and is looking forward to the extra family time she has. In the meantime, she is busy getting ready for the holiday season as she prepares for Christmas. She also has interests in cross stitching and reading which she plans on helping her fill up free time.

Wilcox was involved in the community as a 4-H advisor for ten years between two clubs, Silver Hoofs and Boots and Saddles.

She shared that she’d like to get involved at the fair and hand out flyers and hopefully educate the public and get them interested in the medical field.

“They have retreats where the management team goes away for a weekend,” explained Wilcox. “Brian asked me if I would come in and work the desk if they couldn’t find anyone else. I’m gonna do that to stay involved because it is a great place to work.”

She is looking forward to staying involved and making visits as well. She hopes she left a good impact on everyone she encountered and was helpful while working together.

“I want to thank them for everything they’ve done for me,” said Wilcox. “They took care of me and always made sure to take care of all their people.”

Brian Hathaway shared his appreciation for her dedication to her work. He shared that her work ethic was like no other and she was always willing to do anything and was always someone they could count on.

“Everyone is certainly missing her,” said Brian. “She said that she will come back and help us on a part-time basis and we are excited to have her here back with us occasionally.”

Everyone at Spirit EMS wishes Darleen a Happy Retirement. She has dedicated many years to exceptional customer service.
