I hope this Newsletter finds you well. The past week has been a continuation of the wet weather we’ve been experiencing over the recent months https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?OH Some early grain harvest has taken place as weather has allowed, but most field activity is on pause as we wait for field conditions to improve. Tar spot, Northern Corn Leaf Blight, and Gray Leaf Spot has been spotted in corn, Common weeds have included waterhemp, foxtail, giant ragweed, volunteer corn, and velvetleaf.
Be sure to stop in at the Darke County Garden Roundtable to learn about Common Natural Edible Plants and our Plant of the Month, Pumpkins. Our next session will be held at the OSU Extension Office September 30th at 6:00 p.m.
As we officially enter fall, this upcoming month will be a good time to join me at Worch Library to discuss Apple Production. The program will take place October 29th at 6:00 p.m., and we will discuss planting and caring for apple trees, troubleshooting common issues, varieties to consider, and more.
Save the Date of November 6th for the Western Ohio Ag Outlook Meeting. There, we’ll be joined by professionals from Ohio State University Extension, Farm Service Agency, and Cargill will share the latest updates on the current state of the agricultural industry in Western Ohio. More details will be ready shortly and I will share them as soon as they become available.
I enjoyed seeing several of you at this year’s Farm Science Review, and I hope those of you who got the chance to go enjoyed their time their and got to learn new valuable information.
