To whom it may concern,
I hope this Newsletter finds you well. After recent heavy rains, fields have largely been dry enough to continue corn and soybean harvest. (https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?OH. Additionally, some fall tillage and wheat planting has been taking place as well. Remember to be aware of equipment on the road as field work continues.
The next Darke County Garden Roundtable will be held at the OSU Extension Office on October 22nd at 6:00 p.m.
As we officially enter fall, this upcoming month will be a good time to join me at Worch Library to discuss Apple Production. The program will take place October 29th at 6:00 p.m., and we will discuss planting and caring for apple trees, troubleshooting common issues, varieties to consider, and more.
Agriculturalists throughout Darke County and neighboring counties should consider attending the Western Ohio Ag Outlook Meeting. This event will take place from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on November 6th and will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Versailles. The Outlook Meeting will feature several professionals from both Ohio State University and the Ag Industry to share updates on crops, livestock, land use, trade policies, overall ag outlook, and more. A flyer is attached for more details, and feel free to reach out with any questions.
A great practice for soybean producers is to sample their fields for Soybean Cyst Nematode (SCN). Sampling allows growers to be familiar with their SCN levels and make management decisions accordingly. Fall is a great time to conduct this sampling as the beans come off the fields. Thanks to the Ohio Soybean Council, producers can send in up to two samples to the OSU lab free of charge. More information can be found in the Newsletter, or you can reach out to me for more information. I would be happy to join you in the fields and collect samples to send in.
The next Darke County Ag Breakfast will be Friday, October 23rd at 7:30 a.m. at Jack’s Cabin in Greenville.
