I hope this Newsletter finds you well. Recent rains and cool temperatures have slowed field work, and it appears more of the same conditions are on the way this upcoming week (https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?OH). There are questions about how these weather conditions will impact the emerging crops; an article covering that topic is included in the Newsletter.
May is a great time to join our Darke County Garden Roundtable, where you can learn more about gardening while also sharing your own knowledge. Our next session will be held at the OSU Extension Office on Thursday, May 21st at 6:00 p.m.
If you have any interest in planting strawberries, or learning more about the strawberry patch you already have, I’ll be at Worch Library on May 28th at 4:00 p.m. to discuss Growing Strawberries. We’ll discuss different types of these fruits, proper planting technique, nutrient management, and more. I hope to see you there!
The next Darke County Ag Breakfast will be this upcoming Friday, May 15th at 7:30 a.m. at Jack’s Cabin in Greenville.
This week’s Newsletter topics include:
- BVD Virus Control Programs
- Freeze Damage in Soybean Plants
- Maintaining Barn Ventilation
- Senate Fertilizer Bill
- Tick Awareness
I hope you enjoy this week’s Newsletter, and as always, never hesitate to reach out to me and let me know how I can best serve you and all of Darke County.
