I hope this Newsletter finds you well. Some rains and warm weather have been common in Darke County as the entire state currently has no drought designation (https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?OH). We’re in the time of the season where many plants in the fields and gardens are growing rapidly. Waterhemp, giant ragweed, and poison hemlock are common weeds throughout the county.
If you’re interested in the next Darke County Garden Roundtable, our next session will be held at the OSU Extension Office on Wednesday, July 29th at 6:00 p.m.
If you’re interested in learning more about Rain Barrels, I’ll be holding a program at Worch Library on June 25th at 4:00 p.m. to discuss the topic.
I’ll also be at New Madison Public Library this upcoming Tuesday, June 22nd at 5:30 p.m. to discuss Invasive Plants and methods of control.
If you have any pesticides that need to be disposed of, there will be a great opportunity to do so in Miami County in August. The Ohio Department of Agriculture will be holding Pesticide Disposal Collection at the Miami County Fairgrounds on August 24th. Weed control on the farm is always a difficult but important topic. If this is a topic you’d like to continue learning about, consider attending the 2026 Ohio State Weed Science Field Day. Multiple speakers will be discussing common weeds and control methods for them.
