Wave wrestlers show improvement at Red Devil Invitational

TIPP CITY – On Saturday the Greenville Greenwave varsity wrestlers traveled to Tipp City for the Tippecanoe Red Devil Invitational.

Last year, the team placed 9th out of 17 teams, this season the wave placed an impressive 4th place out of a total of 17 teams.

Greenville held strong at 2nd place going into the 3rd round of matches until they were surpassed by Miami East, Hamilton, and host team Tippecanoe, just 7 points shy of bringing home a 3rd place team trophy.

Out of the 14 weight classes the Wave had 6 individual placers. Those placers included:

106 lb (Jr) Jack Suter who won his match by pinning his opponent (Keagen Kemp from Miami East) in 2:58 taking home 3rd place.

113 lb (So) Henry Allread won his semifinal match against Austin Spicer-Campbell from Wayne by tech fall (18-1) but fell short in the finals to Lucas Shore (Miami East) taking home 2nd place.

126 lb (Jr) Avery Meade won his semi final match against senior Zach Wright from Dixie, by pin (0:37), but fell short in the finals to senior Carter Deppe from Bath bringing home 2nd place.

132 lb (Sr) Juan Gutierrez brought home 4th place after winning his pool but lost in the finals to opponent Cameron Kuba (Fairborn).

157 lb (Sr) William Bush took home 3rd place after winning his match by pin (0:41) against Bently Webb (Bath).

285 lb (Sr) Andrew Winner brought home 1st place after pinning Chandler Moore (Trotwood Madison) in 28 seconds.

The Wave wrestlers will travel to Celina this Tuesday the 17th for a tri-meet against Celina and Crestview followed by a dual at home on Wednesday night against the Piqua Indians with wrestling starting at 6 pm.
