GREENVILLE – The Green Wave dropped the season opener 73-39 to the visiting Tippecanoe Red Devils in conference play.
“You know what you’re going to get with Tipp coming in,” said Greenville coach Matt Hamilton. “They are going to be disciplined, well-coached, and moving the ball. We reference them a lot – that is what we are trying to build towards.”

The game was a tale of two halves, with the visitors taking the first half 50-16 and the teams playing in the second half 23-23.
Tipp grabbed an 18-6 first-quarter lead and piled on 32 second-quarter points while holding the Wave to ten points, sending the team to the break with GHS down 34 points.

Tippecanoe quickly put a running clock in play early in the third period for the remainder of the contest, with a 35-point spread, before the Wave battled back with nine Drew Hamilton third-quarter points, including a triple, to play even with both teams logging 11 third-period points.
In the final period of the night, both teams went to their bench to close out play, and both teams added 12 points to the score.
“We have to have more than one guy score in double figures,” Hamilton stated. “We had good moments, especially in the second half. We talk about building off those things and making the most of them.”

The Red Devils had the hot hand from beyond the arc, knocking down eight first-half 3-pointers and two in the second half for ten treys on the night. Greenville popped in three triples for the game.
Tipp’s CJ Bailey led all scorers with a game-high 18 points, one of three Red Devils to hit for double figures with ten players in the scoring column.

Drew Hamilton paced Greenville with 15 points and eight players getting in the scorebook.
“I tell them every day in practice, when the ball moves, the scoreboard moves,” said Coach Hamilton. “That is what we are trying to get towards. Basketball is an easy sport for somebody who just wants to start shooting and get outside of that team structure. We keep talking about being unselfish and playing together – we just have to get there quicker.”
