GREENVILLE – The Greenville boys varsity soccer team played an excellent second half, dropping a 5-1 MVL match to the visiting Xenia Buccaneers.

Xenia’s lone goal in the second half came with two minutes remaining in the match, with Coach Brad Feldner giving subs playing time.

“A lucky goal off the crossbar there in the second half,” Feldner stated. “We won the second half and we had subs in at the time. We are consistently improving. We have a good long week before our next match so we have time to work on things.”

What looked like a certain blowout, with Xenia finding the back of the net for three goals in the first five minutes of the match, was a very competitive contest.

“We just keep hanging, we keep fighting,” Feldner said. “That is what we’re trying to get these guys to do, not give up and just keep fighting. You get down, no different than anything else; you get down, you have to keep fighting back.”

Greenville junior Jiji Jim scored the Wave’s second-half goal at 37:16 as the teams played to a 1-1 second-half score.

“The last two matches, we’ve had good pieces of time where we’ve maintained possession in the opponent’s half of the field,” said Coach Feldner. “That is what we need to work on. We need to be a little bit better, but we just keep improving little bits at a time, and it’s going to come.”
