LA CROSSE, Wis. – The 2026 regular season has wrapped up for the Western Tech Cavaliers, and Associate Head Baseball Coach Montaous Walton is already back on the road doing what he does best — recruiting talent for the 2027 class after completing a highly regarded 2026 recruiting haul.
The Cavaliers entered the season looking to build on a historic 2025 campaign that saw the program reach the playoffs for the first time in school history. Western Tech came up short of returning to postseason play this year after falling behind Rochester Minnesota College in the standings and narrowly missing the 2026 playoffs.
Despite the disappointment, Walton remains optimistic about the program’s direction.
“We got a very good team, we just couldn’t put it together as we should have,” said Coach Walton. “But with the talent we have coming in this fall and what we have returning, we should make the playoffs next season and continue building from there, especially since we have a taste of it already from last season.”
Walton is no stranger to postseason success and championship-level baseball.
The 13-year coaching veteran has been part of multiple playoff runs throughout his coaching career, including two college world series appearances — one with Wright State Lake Campus in 2021 and another with Rust College in Mississippi in 2023. Walton also helped guide Rust College to a conference championship appearance during his tenure there.
Since joining the Western Tech Cavaliers, Walton has built a strong following among baseball supporters in both Ohio and Wisconsin because of his recruiting ability and passion for developing players.
That recruiting success was evident again this season as Western Tech signed a talented 2026 recruiting class that was recently named among the Top five classes by Prep Baseball All Report.

Now, as the Cavaliers regroup and prepare for the offseason, Walton will spend the summer traveling, evaluating prospects, and building relationships while compiling his list of players for the 2027 class.
With a strong recruiting foundation already in place and postseason expectations growing within the program, Walton believes Western Tech baseball continues to move in the right direction.
