VERSAILLES – As the rain fell Friday night so did Versailles. The Marion Local Flyers shut out the Tigers 48-0. With the win, the Flyers tied Versailles win streak at 54 games in a row.
The night started with the Tigers unable to get a first down, and it got worse when a punt went for minus two yards. Starting from the Tigers’ 23-yard line, quarterback Justin Knouff took a keeper to the one-yard line. Knouff would set up Ethan Hietkamp for the first of his three touchdowns on the night.
The Flyers had a 41-0 halftime lead. With a running clock, they scored on their opening drive of the second half to take a 48-0 lead before subbing in on both sides of the ball.
The Tigers managed just 76 yards of offense on the night, while the Flyers finished with 408 yards.
“We had a bad punt to start with.” Versailles coach Ryan Jones said, “There’s no silver lining in a game like that. That’s just not the standard that we want.”
Versailles will host Anna this Friday night in the homecoming game.
