FAIRFIELD – The Versailles Lady Tigers won its 11th consecutive OHSAA District Volleyball Championship winning in straight sets over the Cincinnati Madeira Lady Amazons.
Versailles jumped out to a 14-2 first-set lead and coasted to a 25-13 opening-set win to go up 2-0 on the Cincinnati school.
Set No. 3 had the Lady Tigers opening with a 2-0 lead with Madeira staying on their heels to trail by a single point at 9-8 before Versailles would go on a 4-0 run to push its advantage to 13-8 bringing a timeout from the Lady Amazons bench.
Versailles extended its lead to 20-12 on its way to a 25-16 second set win and go up 2-0 on the day.
The Madeira Ladies did not go quietly in the third set getting its first lead of the night at 1-0 and taking a 5-2 lead forcing a Versailles timeout with the Lady Tigers trailing 17-12.
Versailles made it a one-point set closing to 20-19 only to have the Lady Amazons use a 3-0 run to lead 22-19 bringing a second Lady Tigers timeout..
The Lady Tigers took advantage of four unanswered points to lead 23-22 with Madeira battling back to knot the score at 23-23.
Versailles grabbed a one-point 24-23 advantage bringing a Lady Amazons timeout only to have Versailles put the match in the win column scoring the next point to win 25-23 and claim its 11th consecutive District Title.
