ARCANUM – The Versailles Lady Tigers strung together four solid quarters of basketball to defeat the home-standing Arcanum Lady Trojans 70-30 in non-conference Saturday afternoon varsity basketball action.

“Our girls played a solid four-quarters,” said Versailles coach, Tracy White. “We played 32 minutes, it didn’t matter who was on the floor and worked well together – got things clicking defensively and offensively.”

Versailles took the opening quarter 12-8 led by Jenna Dirksen with five points including her first of two 3-pointers on the day.
“I felt like tonight we just didn’t give the battle I know we can,” said Arcanum coach, Abbey Moore. “We made some plays in the first quarter and had some strong defensive possessions but then that turnover bug hit us and it was just too big a hole to get out of.”
The Lady Tigers broke the game open in the second period putting 25 points on the board while holding Arcanum to 11 points sending the game to the break with Versailles holding a 37-19 advantage. Katey Litten lit up the Versailles nets for 11 second-quarter points including a triple and Sarah Stammen chipped in six Lady Tigers’ points.

“We go on the tempo of our two guards,” Coach White said. “Katey Litten does a good job and we expect her to do a lot. There is a lot of weight on her shoulders but at the same time, she responds to that. She played one of her best games all around, defensively, and offensively and we were able to run a set almost every possession. Sarah Stammen was also all over it defensively all over the court.”
Versailles extended its lead to 61-28 after three quarters of play taking the third 24-9 with Dirksen and Taylor Wagner each accounting for visitors’ six points.
“The girls were talking constantly, our communication was probably at an all-time high compared to our other games,” Coach White stated. “We did a lot of good things as a team today.”

Period No. 4 had Versailles putting the running clock in play with 6:50 on fourth-quarter board and taking the period 9-2 for the win.
“We put 32 minutes together and we figured it out,” said White. “Our goal is to get better every day.”
“This one hurts because it’s a big sectional matchup,” Coach Moore said. “We were hoping to come out and make a little bit better of a statement but we have to learn from it.”
Litten led Versailles and all scorers with a game-high 19 points.
