UNION CITY, Ind. – This year’s Holiday Heroes program was a huge success, bringing Christmas cheer to more than 130 kids in our community on Thursday. Thanks to donations from local businesses and community members, the program continues to spread joy during the holiday season.

The Holiday Heroes program was created several years ago to provide Christmas presents to children in Union City. This year, kids ages 6-15 got to go on a special shopping trip with police officers, firefighters and city officials at Walmart in Winchester, Ind.

The day began with excitement as the kids were picked up in emergency vehicles and taken on a parade through town. They stopped at Harter Park to see the amazing Christmas lights set up by Community Christmas before heading to Walmart. Once there, the kids had a blast running around and picking out gifts with their shopping partners.

After shopping, everyone returned to the Union City Fire Department for food, drinks and a gift-wrapping party. The kids got to relax, enjoy some treats and see their presents all ready for Christmas morning.

Director of Public Safety Mark Ater shared his gratitude for everyone who supported the program.

“We are so thankful for the businesses and people in our community who donated to make this possible,” Ater said. “It’s amazing to shop with the kids and see how happy this event makes them. Their smiles make all the effort worthwhile.”

The Holiday Heroes program continues to show how much Union City cares about its youth. This event is a perfect example of how coming together as a community can make the holidays extra special for everyone.
