UNION CITY, Ind. – The Union City baseball team made history on June 1 after winning the program’s first IHSAA Regional Title.
The Indians defeated Wes-Del by a score of 7-6 in the Regional match-up at Logansport, Ind. The team will now battle Lafayette Central Catholic in the Semi-State game at 2 pm tomorrow (June 8) at La Porte High School. If they win they will face the winner of Morgan Township vs Freemont for a chance to advance to a State Finals game.
In addition to winning their first Regional Championship, the 2024 UC Indians include several players who were members of the ‘Dylan’s Dawgs’ All-Star team. Dylan Williams died tragically nearly 11 years ago during baseball practice after getting struck in the chest by a baseball on July 17, 2023. Following his death, the Dylan Willams Forever An All-Star Foundation was formed by his family to ensure AEDs (automated external defibrillators) are always available at various sports venues and schools. To date, 81 AEDs have been donated in Indiana, Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina.
Dylan’s former teammates are emotionally motivated as they make a run for an IHSAA State Championship and carry on Dylan’s legacy.
