TROY – In the early morning hours, on July 27, a group of individuals targeted vehicles in the Kensington/Edgewater areas of our city. They specifically looked for unlocked vehicles.

Several wallets, a gun, and 3 stolen vehicles were reported. A separate stolen vehicle from Franklin, Ohio was also recovered in this area and was still running at the time. Since this time, two of our stolen vehicles have been recovered in Dayton.

This large group of young (almost entirely males) has been plaguing the region with this type of activity for more than a year. Nearly all jurisdictions in the region have reported similar events. Many vehicles are recovered, but some are not.

These groups have utilized garage door openers that are in vehicles to gain access to other vehicles that are parked inside the garage. They have also been found with key programming equipment where they can program a blank key to your specific vehicle.

Nearly all identified individuals are from Dayton and have ranged from 12-21 years old.

When confronted, these individuals flee from police at high speeds. If you have any video footage of these events, please notify Det. Cody Compton 937-339-7525 Ext. 1410.
