PITSBURG – The Tri-Village Lady Patriots defeated the home-standing Franklin Monroe Lady Jets in straight sets in WOAC volleyball Tuesday night action.
“We did a lot of great things tonight,” said Tri-Village coach Alaina Kirby. “The girls have been working hard, and I am excited to see what the rest of the season holds and what the tournament holds for us.”

The Lady Patriots took an early 7-2 first-set lead, bringing a timeout from the Franklin Monroe bench. Tri-Village extended its lead to 10-3 and 17-9, and a second FM timeout. The Lady Patriots went on to a double-digit 25-14 win, taking a 1-0 lead.
Set No. 2 had the Lady Jets grab a 3-0 lead to open play and double up on the Lady Patriots 8-4 before the TV evened the score at 10-10 and took their first lead of the set by a 14-13 score. Tri-Village used an 11-3 scoring run to close out the second set and go up 2-0 with a 25-16 win.

“You could definitely tell we had the last nine days off, not having any games,” Kirby stated. “We definitely didn’t play the game that we can play, but I am glad that we still showed up and put things together and came out with this win tonight. That’s what I was expecting, and I am glad the girls did that. Hopefully, this game will get us back in the rhythm of playing some more games.”
The third and final set of the night had Tri-Village leading from the start and taking a double-digit 16-6 advantage. Trailing 24-10, the Lady Jets made a late 6-0 run to make it a 24-16 set before Tri-Village scored the final point of the night for a 25-16 third set win.

“We are definitely getting a lot better at communicating,” said Coach Kirby. “We’ve been working on that, and the girls have done a great job of that. There are still some things we need to work on, but we are also doing a lot of good things. We have been focusing on these positive aspects and continuing to do good things. I am proud of the group of girls we have, and they play great together, they want to play together, and that means a lot.”
