NEW MADISON – The Tri-Village Patriots varsity baseball team handed the visiting Arcanum Trojans a 2-1 WOAC loss in a Thursday night pitching duel.

“To beat a quality team like Arcanum it’s a great win for our program,” said Tri-Village coach, Josh Davies. “Our rival is Arcanum so that’s nice to go out there, win a ballgame like this. “Gives these guys great momentum and confidence.”

The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of play and added a second run in the second inning that would hold up for the win.

“Boys jumped on them real quick,” Davies noted. “Played a real complete game, kept momentum, built a lot of confidence along the way,” said Tri-Village coach,

A sacrifice fly plated Arcanum’s lone run of the night in the top of the fifth inning.

“Right now we’re just not hitting,” said Arcanum coach, Randy Baker. “We have guys that can hit, we’re just pressing a little bit at the plate so we’ll get that figured out and we’ll be ready to go.”

The Trojans played error free ball while Tri-Village committed a single error on the night

“Our defense played really good,” said Coach Baker. “Sharp made a couple nice plays a shortstop,   Reagan played a real good third.”

Jace Lipps went the distance for Tri-Village tossing a 2-hitter, allowing 1-run while walking one and striking out six.

“I felt good – It starts with defense,” Lipps stated following the win. “Most of the outs today came from the defense, I give a lot of credit to them.”

“He (Lipps) threw a fantastic game,” said Coach Davies. “Threw a lot of strikes, kept the pitch count down, stayed composed, did a really nice job for us.”

Arcanum’s Caden Thompson pitched a complete game giving up 2-runs, 5-hits, 1-walk while striking out 11-batters.

“Pitcher’s duel,” Baker noted. “Lipps pitched a great game for them, Thompson threw a great game for us.”

Lipps paced Tri-Village at the plate going 2-3 with a RBI; Kasen Hale went 1-3 with a RBI, Justin Finkbine was 1-2 with a run scored and Carter Finkbine went 1-3 with a run.

Nate Kessler was 1-3 including a double for Arcanum and Ethan Kearney went 1-3 to round out the Trojans hitting.
