NEW MADISON – The Tri-Village Lady Patriots defeated a good Miami East Lady Vikings 6-2 in Monday night non-conference varsity softball action.
“To see a good hitting team with bases loaded and we were able to get out of the inning, those things are huge and it plays to the fact that we have been working on our mental game,” said Tri-Village coach Emily Osborne. “We have some talented girls who are willing to step up and make sure they are making the plays.”
Tri-Village sophomore Elizabeth Poling struck out the side in the top of the first setting the tone for the night with the Lady Patriots putting two runs on the board in the bottom of the inning using a Emma Greer single to center, a Hailey Burk RBI double to right and a Caley McCarroll run scoring double to left and a 2-0 TV lead.
Miami East got a run back in the top of the second with the teams playing to a 2-1 score with three innings in the book.
The Lady Patriots took advantage of an error, a Claire Royer walk, a Tai Mize run-scoring groundout, and a run-scoring Greer single to the right side to lead 4-1 after four.
Burk and McCarroll drilled fifth-inning solo home runs, giving the Lady Patriots a 6-1 lead before Miami East plated a run in the top of the sixth for a 6-2 final score.
“Those are fun to see,” Osborne said of the homers. Caley McCarroll and Hailey Burk both had big hits over the fence for us.”
Poling went the distance on the mound, allowing two earned runs on six hits, three walks, while striking out 11.
“Elizabeth Poling on the mound hit spots,” Osborne stated. “She was confident enough to get the outs we needed.”
Greer led the Lady Patriots going 3-4 at the plate, with one RBI and one run; Burk was 2-2 including a double and a home run, a walk, two RBIs, and two runs; McCarroll went 2-3, with a double and a home run, two RBIs and a run; Mize one RBI; Aereonna Baker a walk and one run; Royer a walk, one run.
“We need to keep rolling,” Coach Osborne stated. “We have five games in a row this week – one game at a time.”
