NEW MADISON – Tri-Village Schools has added a special day to honor some of the great teams from the past in a new event called “Night of Champions”.
In their inaugural event, they honored two teams Saturday in between the JV & Varsity boys basketball game vs Troy Christian. Honored were the 1974 Baseball team and the 1979 Softball team.
The 1974 Tri-Village baseball team, led by Coach Ned Vordermark, is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Regional Finals appearance.
They finished their season with a 15-10 record overall and a 5-1 record in league play which was good enough for a league championship.
The team’s brightest moments came at just the right time, during tournament play. The Patriots advanced into the Regional Finals before losing 6-5 to the eventual State Champions, Middletown Fenwick.

The 1979 Tri-Village softball team, led by Coach Richard Sheley, is celebrating the 45th anniversary of its State Final Four appearance.
They finished their season with a 17-2 record overall while winning a conference championship in the process.
They eventually advanced to the State Semi-finals, where they were beaten by Portsmouth Clay.
This team was the team that started what became 3 straight trips to the State Final Four in softball.
