DARKE COUNTY – The Light Foundation is gearing up to host the eleventh annual Gauntlet Mud Run, a revered summer tradition for many adventurers. The military-inspired obstacle course and activities are planned to be more family-friendly than ever before. The Gauntlet Mud Run continues to draw more than 1,000 participants, volunteers, and spectators.

The race is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with waves every 15 minutes on August 3rd at Chenoweth Trails, the foundation’s 450-acre facility at 440 Greenville-Nashville Rd. in Greenville. The Gauntlet will be based in the center of the camp and will have open viewing areas for spectators to watch their loved ones participate. The competitors will face several obstacles that include walls to climb, ropes to swing across, and mud to crawl through.

“This event is all about fun and community spirit, but don’t worry—there are awards too!” says Matt Light, Co-Founder of the Light Foundation. “We’ll recognize the top two male and female finishers in six age categories, and award a $100 cash prize to the Top Overall Finisher.”

Additional awards will be given for the Largest Team and the Largest School participating. All registered runners will receive a T-shirt and a beverage token.

“In an effort to make the Gauntlet a more kid and family-friendly event, we will be continuing a carnival-themed kid’s area, bouncy house, face painting, balloon animals, games, and free day-care provided by Greenville City Schools Career’s with Children Program,” says Brandi Turner, Program and Marketing Manager. “There will also be a chaperoned kid’s race for ages 5-12 at 12:00 pm for only $25. And, to add to the fun, local food trucks like Werling’s Street Eats, The Purple Trailer, and Kona Ice will be serving up delicious treats throughout the day.”

Proceeds the Light Foundation raises will help support local youth programming and allow Chenoweth Trails to be utilized by local youth non-profit groups free of charge. These initiatives bring nearly 7,000 people through the facility, annually.

This year’s event has garnered support from numerous local sponsors, including McBo’s Bowling Alley, Sunny D Vodka Seltzer, Spirit Medical Transport, KitchenAid, American Legion Post #140, Jafe Decorating, Inc., Cox Insurance, My County Link, Doss Business Systems, Newbauer Family, VPP, Wolf Tent, Darke Elks Benevolence Group, Prosperity Promotions, and Ruble’s Painting Service. In-kind sponsorships are also welcomed and can include course materials, bottled water, race bag goodies, and more.

The Light Foundation is also recruiting 100 volunteers to help put on a spectacular, successful, and inspiring event. Along with receiving service hours, volunteers receive a free t-shirt and meal. Several community groups and local athletic teams have already signed up including the Dylan Williams Memorial Foundation which helps man the course obstacles!

Registration for the Gauntlet is still open, but there is no t-shirt guarantee past July 15th. Race-day registration will be available for the 11:15 am wave and the Kid’s Race (ages 5-12 and registered runners can run with their children).
