GREENVILLE – Greenville City Schools was the recipient of the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights $1,000 giveaway.
Friday Night 5G Lights is a multi-phased program designed to engage schools and communities, running from July through October. While schools compete for the million-dollar prize, there are plenty of opportunities to win weekly Friday prizes.
“Every winter season, we donate $1,000 to a lot of the schools in the area,” said Greenville T-Mobile manager Angel Murphy. “That enters the school into a contest to win $5,000, $25,000, or a million, and the weight room upgrade.”
T-Mobile’s panel of judges will select 25 finalists based on the applicants’ stories, school needs, and community impact. The finalists will be announced in late September, and from there, everyone in the country will be able to help pick the grand prize winner by voting for their favorite school at www.fridaynight5glights.com.
“We try to reach out to all of the schools, and the ones that respond to us first get the $1,000,” Murphy noted. “After that, we can enter everybody to win the $5000 and up from there.”
“It is nice and appreciated,” said Greenville Athletic Director Aaron Shaffer. “T-Mobile is a national brand, but the local store reached out to help get us engaged in their Friday Night 5G Lights campaign. We won a thousand dollars, which is great, but it also allows us to be entered into their bigger national drawing, and who knows, if you don’t partner with them and you don’t get in that relationship, you can’t win it so why not us.”
