GREENVILLE – The Darke County General Health District is preparing to conduct food safety inspections to help protect public health during The Great Darke County Fair. Inspectors will be on-site most days of fair operation to review food and behavior concessions.

Visitors are encouraged to wash hands frequently after visiting animal barns and to avoid eating or drinking in those areas. Hand sanitizing stations are available at barn entrances and exits.

To operate at the fair, temporary and mobile food vendors must meet specific requirements, including:
Using water from approved sources
Properly disposing of wastewater in approved drains or containers
Maintaining handwashing facilities, hot water, and dish sanitation
Obtaining food from licensed sources and preparing it safely

Those camping at the fair are reminded to dispose of gray water in blue belly containers, holding tanks, or sanitary sewers, and to use only approved dump stations for black water.

Fairgoers can also stop by the Darke County General Health District booth near the Grandstands to learn about mosquito control and pick up free resources while supplies last.

The Health District urges everyone to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and bug spray, and take breaks in designated rest areas, some of which are air-conditioned. For additional information, please contact the Darke County General Health District at (937) 548-4196.
