MIAMI COUNTY – The Miami County Sheriff’s Office was recently awarded a two-year grant for behavioral health services in the jails. The grant was received from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and was funded by monies from the state opioid settlement. The grant funds $214,500.00 each year for salaries of behavioral health professionals and supplies. Miami County incurs no costs.
The Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Tri-County Board of Recovery & Mental Health Services and will be contracting with them for the behavioral health professionals. Plans are to onboard substance abuse disorder counselors and an addiction services coordinator. The past several years have seen a dramatic increase in mental health and substance abuse disorders among inmates in jails. While the grant funds two full years, there is an option for a 3rd year of funding.
