GREENVILLE—The St. Paul’s Lutheran Church donated cookies to Wayne HealthCare on Wednesday morning as a token of their thankfulness.
In addition to the cookies from Momma G’s Bakery, the church also prays for the hospital and its staff every Sunday.
Jim Subler, President and CEO of Wayne HealthCare, said the hospital appreciates the gift.
“They are doing this for us to show appreciation for what we do for the community,” Subler said. “We’re sure they pray for us each month and that is fantastic all of our staff appreciate all of our local non-profit, churches and groups it is a great way for them to give back and we do appreciate that these are challenging times in health care. We appreciate and enjoy people when the recognize us for that.
The church has a committee that takes 10% of their offering, and applies the money to different projects, such as this one.
In the past, they’ve donated to the police department and the fire department gift certificates.
“This year we chose the hospital for their service to the community,” Mike Meckes, of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church said. “We try to thank those groups for what they do for the community we wanted to thank them for what they do and what they are doing and show our appreciation for the service they give to the community.”
Momma G provided 71 dozen cookies for the many different employees at Wayne.
“When we found out how many employees are here it was kind of a shock, but Momma G’s helped us out,” Meckes said. “Linda at Momma G’s put the packages together for each of the departments and identified them.”
Lauren Henry, Hospital Foundation Director said Wayne always welcomes donations.
“When Ginny [Kagey] called me to say that their social committee at St. Paul’s Lutheran was wanting to do this we were very excited,” she said. “We are just very thankful that they look at us and see the hard work we do for this community. We are so happy to give back to take care of our community. Everyone enjoys cookies, we all love food.”
