GREENVILLE— John Hathaway got a little more than just a holiday bonus from work this year.
An EMT-B at Spirit Medical Transport, Hathaway was the lucky winner of a raffle in which he
won a 2022 Toyota RAV4.
The car was a part of an employee drawing at Spirit, created to boost employee morale and
encourage the staff.
“Brian and Aaron always come up with something to encourage and surprise their employees,” Carie Pope, director, employee relations, communications, and HR assistant, said. “When our Christmas party comes, it’s just like, what’s it going to be this year? It’s just amazing what they do. They just like to give back to their employees.”
From May 15 to the Spirit Christmas Party, any existing employee with perfect attendance, that picked up eight unscheduled shifts, was entered into a drawing to win the car.
Hathaway said he couldn’t believe it when he won.
“[I felt] disbelief,” he said. “It started with over 100 employees with 7 qualifying for the wheel of fortune and it stopped on my name.”
From early summer to Christmas, Hathaway didn’t miss a day of work, was never late and picked up eight shifts.
Hathaway, father of Brian Hathaway, CEO and President of Spirit EMS, started at the company in March 2007.
“It’s a good place to work,” he said. “The car is just one example of the management at Spirit expressing their gratitude to their employees. They send all employees a card with a gift card in it for their birthday, wedding anniversary, anniversary of their employment. He often buys chicken dinners from local groups to support them and gives the dinners to Spirit employees.”
Pope reiterated the management’s generosity, and said the whole staff is one big family.
“I enjoy coming to work everyday knowing that it will always be something different and everyone will be treated like family,” she said. “It’s an amazing and satisfying feeling.”
