PREBLE COUNTY – The Sheriff’s Office is receiving reports that residents are receiving phone calls from a male subject identifying themselves as Deputy Rick Meyers from the Preble County Sheriff’s Office Civil Division.
The suspect may also leave a message and ask you to return a call regarding an immediate matter that needs attention. The caller is asking victims to purchase gift cards and then provide him with numbers from the card.
This is a scam! Do not purchase cards and provide information to the caller.
The Sheriff’s Office does not have an employee by this name and would never call you asking for money to resolve a legal matter.
Residents are encouraged to hang up immediately should you receive this call. If a message is left, do not return the call. Contact your local law enforcement agency if you receive such a call.
