DARKE COUNTY – Don’t let the holidays weigh you down. The Darke County Senior Center offers many activities to lighten and enlighten the spirit and body!
There’s Refit every Monday and Friday from 10:30 – 11:45 am, Chair Yoga every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 – 11:15 am, and Beginner Tai Chi classes will be conducted three Mondays in December, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. Classes will be on 12/1, 12/12 and 12/22.
Tai Chi is a gentle, low-impact exercise involving slow, flowing movements and deep breathing. Its goal is to balance the body’s energy for improved physical and mental health. (Participation in this series is required prior to enrolling in Tai Chi 2).
Please be aware that the Center will not be open from December 24th through 28th for Christmas and will close again on December 31st for the New Year holiday.
Another “Senior Soothe Me” day is scheduled for Friday, December 12th. Starting at 11:45 am, until 2:00 pm, Joe Bush will offer 15-minute chair massages by reservation for $10. And Lori Osterloh-Hagaman will be doing foot reflexology.
Chair massage focuses on the back, shoulders, neck, arms, and head. It enhances circulation by increasing blood flow, thereby supporting the body’s natural healing processes. By helping to decrease stress hormones, it may also contribute to lowering high blood pressure. Massage therapy fosters overall well-being by encouraging the body’s intrinsic capacity for self-healing and increasing oxygen supply to the brain to support improved mental focus. Additionally, massage stimulates the immune system, contributing to overall health and greater resilience.
Foot reflexology is a holistic therapy performed on bare feet, based on the concept that specific points on the feet correspond to organs, glands, and systems of the body. Through the careful application of pressure to these reflex areas, practitioners seek to support relaxation, improve circulation, ease tension, and stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities. This technique is frequently used to promote overall balance and well-being.
Pamper yourself or give yourself the attention you need before the holidays. To reserve a time slot for the “Senior Soothe Me,” contact Wally at (508) 789-3884 or Mary at (937) 423-2565 by call or text. These times fill quickly; please get in touch soon.
For all who are interested there will be Christmas Caroling on Tuesday, December 9th, from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm at three Greenville nursing facilities. Santa and Mrs. Claus will join us in singing and giving each resident a small gift. We will meet at Oakley Place (1275 Northview Dr) at 11:30 pm, then continue to Brookdale Assisted Living (1401 N Broadway) and finish at Village Green (1315 KitchenAid Way).
Got room for one more decoration? Well, it could be a snowman that you can keep up long after the tree and lights are put away. Come to the Tin Can Snowman crafting class held on Thursday, December 18th, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm to make your very own “Frosty” from tin cans. (Donation) Refreshments will be provided. The class size is limited, so RSVP by 12/11*.
