The Lunch & Learn at Brethren Retirement Community in July, and the Chocolate Trail in Richmond, Indiana. A couple of these events were written up by participants.
Theresa Kress writes, “For the first time, the Lunch & Learn was held at the host facility; Brethren Retirement Community. Seniors enjoyed a delicious meal of meatloaf, mac ‘n cheese and green beans. Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Holly Hill shared details about BRC’s campus and all the amenities they offer. After a question-and-answer period we divided into three groups and toured ‘the big house’.
At each location, we enjoyed different chocolate creations including chocolate mousse at the Chestnut Cafe, frozen hot chocolate at the Cafe & Gifts, chocolate covered peanuts at the library, chocolate covered strawberries at the 2nd & Main Activity Area, chocolate protein balls at the Senior FIT Gym, chocolate brownies from Beanz at Shuff Chapel, chocolate fudge at the therapy gym, and Shirley’s Dark Chocolate Almond Popcorn at the assisted living apartment. Too much chocolate? Never! We all received a nifty take-home box so we could save our treats for later. Thank you BRC for an enjoyable and delicious afternoon!”
From Marian Eley: On 8/10/26 seventeen participants from the Darke County Senior Citizen Center embarked on a delightful chocolate trail carpool, visiting three enchanting venues.
Our journey began in New Paris, where we stopped at The Place on Spring Street. After stamping our passports, we were treated to a warm cup of hot chocolate, accompanied by an array of delectable candies and pastries.
Next, we ventured to the Uranus Fudge Factory in Richmond, Indiana. There, we indulged in a homemade chocolate treat, savoring the rich flavors and unique creations available for purchase. If you haven’t visited this gem yet, it’s an excellent destination for visitors from out of town.
On our way back to New Paris, we made a stop at the Cedar Coffee shop on Main Street. Once again, we were treated to a delightful treat, a small mocha ice, hot, or hot chocolate. We gathered in the cozy back room, where we could socialize and enjoy our treats together. Many expressed their desire to return for more.
The Cedar Coffee Shop also hosts singers outside on Saturdays throughout August, adding to the charm of the experience. Exciting plans are already underway to visit two more Chocolate Trail locations in the coming months, so keep your passports handy.
After visiting 11 merchants and getting your passport stamped, you’ll be eligible to receive a complimentary T-shirt at the Richmond, Indiana welcome center, conveniently located right beside the Toyota dealership.
Darke County Seniors welcomes anyone age 55 and older. To learn more, visit them at the Great Darke County Fair, just inside the main gates to the right of the gazebo. Be sure to pick up a flyer/calendar with September events and registration deadlines.
