Ronald E Bonfiglio, age 91, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, April 17th at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio.
Ron was born Oct 18th, 1933, in Defiance, Ohio, to the late Paul and Erma (Caterina) Bonfiglio.
He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey J (Foss) Bonfiglio, as well as his Sister Kate Romaker and husband Rich, brother Frank Bonfiglio and wife Alice, brother Richard Bud Bonfiglio and wife Jeannine, brother-in-law Keith Adams and granddaughter Allegra Bonfiglio.
Ron is survived by his wife Mary (Denniston) Light Bonfiglio. They were married in 2002. Also, his Sister Rosie Adams of Greenville, Children Bethany Miller and husband John of York, Pa. David Bonfiglio of Oak Creek, Colorado, Stephen Bonfiglio and wife Christa of Greenville, Laura Marva and husband Paul of Kent, Ohio. Dan Light and wife Jenny, Jim Light and wife Vicky, Dennis Light and wife Susan, Grandchildren John, Christian and Audrey, Nicole, Chelsea and Nahila, Tony, Mathew Andrea and Andrew, Jarek, Alyssa, Noelle and Arianna, Andria, James, Morgan and Savanna, Chloe, Ellie and Micah. 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron was a graduate of Lima Central High School, spending his high school career playing football. Ron and brother Bud were the 1st set of brothers to play in the High School All-American Football Game.
He graduated from Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy and continued his football career at ONU as a member of the Football Alumni Men.
Ron and his brother Bud founded Bonfiglio Pharmacy in downtown Greenville in April 1956, eventually purchasing 8 additional pharmacies in Greenville and the surrounding area. He retired from Pharmacy after more than 55 years.
Ron was a devout Catholic and attended St Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville. He was a member of the RCIA and a lecturer at St Mary’s.
He was dedicated to his community, serving on many different boards of directors. He had served as President of the Greenville School Board of Education, Darke County School Board, Darke County Chamber of Commerce, the Ambassador’s group of the Chamber and was a recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, Hope Foundation, One of the original founders of the Darke County Youth for Christ, Darke County Red Cross, Mausoleum Restoration committee, Good Samaritan Home, Citizens Circle, and a Life Member of the Elks lodge.
Ronald loved his family and was very proud of them. He loved hosting huge family holiday events and family reunions.
His 4th of July celebration was known throughout the County. He loved the pharmacy profession, fishing, playing sandlot sports and candy-making parties.
He enjoyed attending and watching Greenville High School sporting events as well as Notre Dame Football, Cincinnati Bearcats, to name a few.
He always wore a smile and made everyone he met smile
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday April 26, 2025, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church 233 West Third Street Greenville, Ohio with Father Matt Feist as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Greenville Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Saturday, 1 hour prior to the services in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.
