Rodney E. Oda CPA, age 70 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 2:28 PM Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at his residence. Rodney was born May 25, 1954 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of Dorothy (Dominek) Oda of Greenville and the late Frederick Eugene “Gene” Oda.
Rodney was a very active member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Greenville and was a season ticket holder and an avid Cincinnati Bengals Fan.
He graduated in December 1975 from Miami University, Oxford, OH with a Bachelor of Science in Business with an Accountancy Major. He just recently retired as Tax Director with Jones & Fry CPAs including preparation of individual and business tax returns; tax planning, estate planning, and consulting.
Rodney’s memberships include the Ohio Society of CPA’s, American Institute of CPA’s, Ohio Society’s Small Business, Tax and Construction Sections, AICPA’s Taxation Division, Greenville Elks Lodge #1139, Partnering for Progress, Darke County Chamber of Commerce, Darke County Historical Society and Darke County Center for the Arts.
His current community involvement includes serving as President of the Oda Family Foundation Inc., trustee for Darke County Historical Endowment Fund and past committee chairman of the Finance & Operations Committee for the St. Mary’s Catholic School.
Rodney was previously involved with the following: Trustee and Chairperson of finance/investment committee for Edison State Community College Foundation, Treasurer of Hospice of Darke County, served as President and Treasurer of the former Greenville Jaycees, District Director and State Treasurer of Ohio Jaycees, National Treasurer of the United States Jaycees, Treasurer of the United States Jaycees Foundation, Co-founder of the Speech and Hearing Impaired Golf Tournament, President, Treasurer, Trustee and Campaign Co-Chairperson of the Darke County United Way, Co-Founder and served as a Loan Executive for the United Way Loan Executive Program, President and Trustee for the former Greenville Sertoma Club, Past President for the Annie Oakley Days Committee and the Annie Oakley Memorial Park Committee, had served as a Trustee and Treasurer for the Darke County Foundation, Co-Founder and Chairman of the golf outing for the first 25 years of the Darke County United Way Golf Tournament, Treasurer for the Greenville Municipal Concert Band, Past Chairman of the Board, Trustee and Finance Committee for the Darke County Historical Society, Trustee for the Darke County Center for the Arts Endowment Fund, President, Treasurer and Trustee for the Greenville Dollars for Scholars, Trustee for the Treaty Company Scholarship Fund and the Darke County Visitors Bureau.
He was also the Founder/Co-Founder of the Following Charitable Foundations: Darke County Endowment for the Arts, Darke County Historical Society Endowment Fund and the Oda Family Foundation, Inc.
He is the recipient of the VFW Citizen of the Year Award, the Agricultural Committee of the Darke County Chamber of Commerce Service Award, William L. Combs Patron of the Arts Award and the Knights of Columbus Citizen of the Year.
Rodney has received awards from other community organizations for his service to the residents of Greenville and Darke County. He also assisted other organizations in their work by participating in their fundraisers and offering assistance/advice on their fundraisers.
Rodney is survived by his mother Dorothy (Dominek) Oda of Greenville, sister Barbara (David) Dent of Mt. Juliet, TN. Brother Chris (Susan) Oda of Powell, Ohio; nieces and nephews Rachel (Logan) Hamilton, Ryan Dent, Katie (Paul) Steffas and Lizzie (Jake) Phillips as well as numerous cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM Tuesday, August 27, 2024 in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church 233 West Third Street Greenville, Ohio with Father Matt Feist as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 26, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 11:45 AM in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio. Prayers will be recited at 3:30 PM Monday in the funeral home.
It is Rodney’s wish that Memorial Contributions be given to St. Mary’s Catholic School Principal’s Fund through the Darke Foundation or the Cancer Association of Darke County.
