Richard Lee “Dick” Helmer, age 89, of Greenville, OH, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, surrounded by family. 

Dick was born April 12, 1934, in New Carlisle, to the late I.J. and Opal Helmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his special sweetie Margarette “Peg” Barnett, his daughter Missy Helmer, and his great-granddaughter Rebecca Trittschuh.

He is survived by his daughter Ronda (Joe) Baker of Greenville, son Randy Helmer of Union City, IN, and daughter Jodi (Rocel J. II) Gilroy of Rossburg, sister Shirley Mikesell of Greenville, brother Larry “Shuck” (Carol) Helmer of Greenville, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. 

Dick was a graduate of Palestine High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country, he earned his journeyman’s card and opened his own electrical business, Helmer Electric. After more than a decade in the field, he took a job with Corning, where he worked until his retirement. 

He loved to play Euchre, a good cup of coffee, a day at the slots, and his winters spent in warm climates. 

At Dick’s request, no formal funeral will be held, but a private graveside service will be done at the convenience of the family.
