Eaton PD warns public about phone scams

204

EATON – It has been reported to us that people are receiving calls from someone identifying themselves as an Eaton Police Division employee. The caller may tell people they have a warrant and need to pay money, or that another law enforcement agency has a case against them and to cooperate with them. The Eaton Police Division will never ask for money, personal banking or credit card information.

This is a common scam, and scammers have used the actual names of Eaton Police Division employees. Scammers can “spoof” our phone number so that it shows you are receiving a call from the Eaton Police Division.

Please do not give personal information to anyone over the phone. If you think you were a victim of a scam, please report it to your local law enforcement agency. Please share this information!
