PIQUA – During the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) 2024 Engineering & Operations Technical Conference, which took place April 7-10 in New Orleans, Piqua Power System was recognized for earning a Diamond Level designation as a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) and a Certificate of Excellence in Reliability.

The RP3 designation, which lasts for three years, recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to the safe and reliable delivery of electricity.

Piqua Power System received the Diamond Level designation, which is awarded to utilities that successfully meet 98 to 100 percent of the RP3 program criteria. Piqua Power has achieved the Diamond Level every year since 2013 and have achieved the highest level of certification a total of six times, beginning with Piqua Power’s first Diamond Level RP3 certification in 2009.

The Apprentice Lineworkers Hayden Hall and Gavin McReynolds participated in APPA’s 2024 Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo, which is the foremost showcase of public power lineworker skill and knowledge. The “rodeo” is a series of competitive events demonstrating lineworker skills and safe work practices. A total of 134 apprentices from all over the nation competed individually in five events over two days.

“As this was my first time ever to a National Rodeo, I was extremely impressed and proud with the level of professionalism, dedication and hard work that Hayden and Gavin (as well as all other competitors) exhibited during the brutal summertime-like conditions. It was definitely inspiring to watch lineworkers from all across the country compete,” said Piqua Power’s Bret Reid.
